News: TGSLF helps secure justice for Innocent Quaye, boy hit with stray bullet

Over a year ago, it was brought to the attention of The Good Shepherd Love Foundation through its President and Founder, Reginald Nii Odoi of the plight of a young man named Innocent Quaye. On or about 19thJanuary, 2010 Innocent Quaye, who was then a student was negligently shot by one soldier Richard Obour, military personnel who was on official duty with the Forestry guides at Anoma Wobi a village between Kasoa and Bawjiase in the Central Region of Ghana.

The incident was said to have taken place at about 2:00pm on the said date. Mr. Innocent Quaye was by then innocently riding his bicycle on his way to Papase when the soldier who was shooting at a fleeing vehicle carrying logs that were deemed to be possessed illegally shot at him.

Mr. Innocent, who was shot in his belly, lost consciousness and could not urinate neither could he walk. He was rushed to the 37 Military after which he was treated after undergoing surgery.Mr. Innocent has since the incident been rendered totally incapacitated and unable to do anything meaningful on his own.

His bright future has been cut short leaving him totally helpless and at the mercy of others. Upon hearing about Mr. Innocent’s plight, our Founder Reginald Nii Odoi who himself is a lawyer took immediate steps to engage the relevant Governmental institutions in order to arrive at an immediate solution to the problem as well as to ensure that Innocent received justice even though 9 years had passed.

With the dedicated attention and assistance of Lawyer Dennis Eyram Fumey, Citi TV and the brother of Mr. Innocent (Ebenezer Quaye), amongst others, the journey to obtain justice for Mr. Innocent recently came to a fruitful end.

Through negotiation and persistence, Mr. Innocent this past week on 6 November 2019 received an amount of Ninety Thousand Ghana Cedis (GHC90, 000.00) from the Forestry Commission of Ghana.

The amount represents a part payment of a total amount of One hundred and fifty thousand Ghana Cedis agreed to be paid to Mr. Innocent and his family by the Forestry Commission and the Ghana Armed Forces. The Ghana Armed forces is yet to honor its part of the agreement being the outstanding payment of sixty thousand Ghana Cedis (GHC60, 000).

The family of Innocent expressed their gratitude to the Good Shepherd Love Foundation for their great effort in ensuring that the matter received the necessary attention that led to this relief after many years.

Also, the Good Shepherd Love Foundation further expressed its thanks to Citi TV and Lawyer Dennis Eyram Fumey for partnering with its Founder Lawyer Reginald Nii Odoi to ensure that Innocent indeed obtained the justice due him.

This relief to the family, though seemingly small comes after almost 9 years of fruitless effort to receive audience by the family. Thus, the family remains undoubtedly thankful for the effort of the Foundation and others involved to get them to this point.

The Good Shepherd Love Foundation would keep following up to ensure that the outstanding payment is received as well as to offer necessary guidance to the family just so that they do not misuse the moneys received but rather put it to good use.
